Larissa Cairns
Marron Family Scholar

Since completing a Bachelor of Music (with studies in Voice and Choral Conducting) and further studies in Education, Larissa has dedicated herself to the education of young people. She has worked as a full time classroom music teacher in Melbourne Catholic secondary Colleges, most recently at Star of the Sea Gardenvale, where she is Co-Ordinator of Choral Studies. Her passion for singing is evident in the enjoyment experienced by the students in her care.

Larissa has also been active in the development of liturgical singing and the art of Cantoring in Melbourne parishes, through the running of workshops with the Archbishop’s Office for Evangelisation. Through these workshops, Larissa encourages participants to use the best principles, skills and resources when presenting music in their parishes. Hundreds of Melbourne musicians have benefitted from her years of experience, both as a cantor and as a teacher.

In her professional singing life, Larissa continues to sing at many liturgical functions, weddings and special events around Melbourne and she also runs a private singing studio. Having just completed further tertiary studies in Theology, Larissa hopes to continue sharing her passion for singing and for the great work that it can achieve in the world with all those who will listen.

As St. Augustine said: ‘Those who sing well, prays twice’.
