Anthony Halliday
Associate Director of Music and Principal Organist at St Francis' Church

Anthony Halliday’s first association with St. Francis Church was as a boy chorister. He has been commissioned by St. Francis Church and Choir to compose two Masses, Mass of Celebration for double choir, soprano soloist, brass and timpani, and Missa pro Communitate for choir and organ. His other compositions have been performed in London, Berlin and Rome.

He has performed in many prestigious venues including Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral and St Paul’s Cathedral London, the Royal Festival, the Queen Elizabeth, and the Wigmore Halls London, St Peter’s Basilica Rome and the Cologne Cathedral International Organ Festival, Germany. He has directed his choirs in tours to Germany, Austria and Italy.

He was awarded the Churchill Fellowship to study at the Royal College of Music London and the University of London. He has received many awards and prizes including all the Fellowship prizes at the Royal College of Organists (London), as well as the Silver Medal of The Worshipful Company of Musicians (London). He held several cathedral and church appointments in London and has given live radio broadcasts for the BBC and the ABC. He won first prize playing Bartok's second piano concerto in the A.B.C. Commonwealth Concerto Competition.

Each year Mr. Halliday is invited to perform in Germany, Italy, Spain, England and Ireland and this year received six standing ovations.

Recently he orchestrated fifteen traditional hymns in symphonic arrangements for Dr. Murray Stapleton and Cantor Productions, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra, and arranged three works for the Steinway Spectacular concert of eight pianos and organ performed in the Sydney Opera House, Queensland Performing Arts Centre and Melbourne Concert Hall.

His recent CD’s include organ music by Bach, Duruflé, Widor, and his own compositions and piano music by Handel, Beethoven, Shafton and Liszt. He has also recorded all 32 sonatas for pianoforte by Beethoven and recently performed the complete 48 preludes and fugues of the Well Tempered Clavier by Bach from memory.
